USDA Provides $38.3 Million to Support South Carolina Farmers Impacted by Hurricane Helene

October 3, 2025 admin Comments Off

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced more than $38.3 million in disaster recovery funding to help South Carolina farmers and ranchers recover from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene. The block grant agreement, administered in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA), is designed to cover losses not addressed by other USDA disaster programs.

Through this program, SCDA will provide relief for infrastructure damage, timber losses, and future economic and market losses, ensuring producers receive support where they need it most. The funding is part of the broader $30 billion disaster assistance effort authorized by the American Relief Act of 2025, which supports recovery in multiple states across the country.

“South Carolina’s farmers and forest landowners have worked tirelessly to recover from Helene’s devastation, and this funding will close crucial gaps to assure a future for their businesses,” said South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers.

Producers should look for upcoming announcements from SCDA with eligibility details and application information.
